Connie, Clara & Tammy

Since arriving at the half way house for HIV+ mothers and children, these 3 have become inseparable. Although they are now happy and full of mischief, this was not always the case. Having been turned out of the family home in the middle of the night, Connie and her mum were found emaciated in a ditch, and were not expected to live very long. All are now receiving anti-retroviral treatment and, complemented by GardenAfrica's nutrition and skills training, their mothers now complain that their clothes are too tight! Preparing for the day when they must leave the half way house, their mothers have been shown how to provide nutritious food for them, and have begun making food and cakes with produce from the garden to sell at the local market, where they are also learning to overcome the crippling stigma attached to their condition.
